In this competitive job market for pharmacists, qualified pharmacists are getting passed up by hiring managers because they have not taken the time tailor their resume to the position they're interested in. This can happen even if you have a recruiter representing you for a position.
A misconception pharmacists have about working with recruiters is that recruiters will be able to get you over the hurdle of being just a resume on someone's desk because they will be able to verbally tell the hiring manager about why you should be considered for a position, so you don't need to do much to represent yourself well in a resume.
Recruiters can certainly move you in front of a pile of resumes. However, just as with networking, even if a recruiter provides you with the value of a direct connection and markets you to a decision-maker, the hiring manager still wants to see your strengths and responsibilities relevant to the position backed up by your resume. If you decide to focus on responsibilities that don't tie in to the job you are applying for, you can get overlooked for an interview even if you are qualified.
For example, there is one hospital that is looking for a pharmacist who has started up an anticoagulation clinic or set up other pharmacy-run clinics. That is a main responsibility they are looking for experience in. I know a pharmacist who has had experience setting up pharmacy-run clinics, but she chose to just highlight all the anticoagulation clinic experience she's had, not the experience she's had in setting up a pharmacy-run clinic. It cost her an interview.
I know another pharmacist who didn't answer objections upfront about things that a hiring manager could have concerns about within his resume. It was not clear within the resume why he had transitioned positions within a 1.5-2 year period for the last few jobs, all of which were reasonable circumstances. Even though it may be explained to a pharmacy hiring manager by a recruiter, hiring managers are busy and can forget. When the hiring manager gets a chance to look over your resume, he/she passes a judgment based on what they see.
My advice to you is get clear about the responsibilities of the position you're applying for and take the time to address those specific responsibilities as much as you can. Also meet potential objections upfront someone may have about why you would be a good fit for the position.
Sometimes you can think you've addressed this the best as possible without realizing how 1) you have really undersold yourself, 2) you have not crafted your resume to market yourself to give yourself the best chance possible to be invited in for an interview. Get a resume critique from a pharmacist job market expert before you send off your resume/application. You may choose to do it yourself without expert feedback, but you may miss out on interviews and offers. You have no idea how many times you are getting passed over because of something that you can take control over, if you just took that extra step to get feedback. You deserve the best shot, especially for positions that you are qualified for.
Remember, in this competitive pharmacist job market, doing the same thing you've always done will not get you the results it may have a few years ago. Use what you've learned to make changes in the way you are approaching your resume writing to get results.

The Number One Reason Why Older People Can Go Downhill Fast
There is a reason why many older become unable to live independently.
It happened to one of our neighbors twice in one year. She fell first in her kitchen and broke her back. She tripped over an area rug. She was in the hospital for months.
The second time she fell she broke her shoulder. She is now in a nursing home.
Home Health Personal Support Aid Marian Hoskins told us that hardwood floors that are so fashionable right now are a hazard for seniors. Marian has over 30 years experience as an LPN on the surgical floor and ER.
She says if seniors fall on a hardwood floor, they WILL break something. But if they fall on padded carpet they may not.
Many seniors slip on area rugs, too. Wall to wall carpet has a comfortable and uniform surface that is good for safety and preventing falls.
And falls are a problem and hazard for all seniors.
Even with chronic illness they will be getting along fine and then all of a sudden they are NOT fine.
They might break a bone or not, but a fall can cause serious problems both for seniors and their families.
Marian says the most common breaks are hips and arms.
And many seniors end up in nursing care because of them.
But at least some die as a result of a fall. The stress can bring on a heart attack or stroke.
At least some of the time a medication can cause dizziness or disorientation that may lead to a fall.
Even over the counter medications can cause dizziness. Cold and allergy medications, sleeping pills, and a host of others can cause sleepiness or dizziness.
And some seniors may be overmedicated through forgetfulness or weight loss, both of which are common for senior patients.
And another problem seniors encounter is that they may be living in homes that are not accessible.
Grab bars in bathrooms could make all the difference. But few families are willing to go through the disruptions, expense and inconvenience of making the old home truly accessible.
We advocate building code that requires accessibility built into all new homes and buildings, especially in bathrooms.
We are all getting older.
And a broken leg will convince any homeowner that accessibility is desirable in any living space.
Disability is not limited to seniors. Even a temporary injury or orthopedic operation for a young person can make accessibility a very great benefit for all homeowners and renters.
But grab bars are a good start for aging people and could prevent the kinds of falls and injuries that disable and even kill some seniors each year.
Additionally, careful monitoring of medications and their effect on an individual could prevent some injuries, too.
These falls caused by medications and/or hazards in homes are things that can be fixed with care and good planning. Seniors can do some things to help insure their safety. And families and caretakers can help, too. Fall injuries can take away our treasured independence. It’s worth a little time and expense to avoid these injuries.

I guess you would have to say that this was the golden age of movies. Then something very profound happened. Television started to become popular. With television however, it was much harder to attain this type of status, although in the beginning a few did like Milton Berle and Jack Benny, two comedians. Then it happened, one person came on to the scene in the sixties and his fame is still with us to day.
William Shatner was not an actor that you would put into the class of a Fonda, Taylor, or Bogart. He never claimed that he was. He began his acting career in 1950. He was born in 1931 and kept his real name which is very unusual. His full name is William Alan Shatner and as most people know, he was born in Canada. His grandfather was Wolf Schattner and anglicized the family name to Shatner. Shatner was raised in the conservative Jewish religion. When I said that Shatner was not in the class of Fonda and others, this was not to say that he was not a good actor. He was trained as a classical Shakespearean actor and appeared in the Stratford Festival of Canada in Stratford, Ontario. There is something about Shatner's personality that seems to make us like to watch him. I don't know the man since I have never met him, but he does come across like a very likeable person. I remember watching him recently on an interview show that he had on cable and he interviewed Leonard Nimoy. Icouldn't pull myself away from it. Does Shatner have some power over us that we are not aware of?
There are still a few of us around that remember the Howdy Doody Show. It was a very early tv show for children that featured a marionette as Howdy Doody. Shatner played Ranger Bob in the Canadian Version. Shatner did have some experience in the movies and was in the movie, The Brothers Karamazov. He played the younger brother. The film featured many big names of the time such as Yul Brynner, Lee J. Cobb, Richard Basehart, Albert Salmi, Maria Schell, Clare Bloom and others. Although Shatner made many movies other than Star Trek, I do not believe that is where his popularity arose from. It came initially from television. He made at least a couple of the original Twilight Zones, which are constantly being shown on television. He also did many voices, but when he became the fearless Captain Kirk of the star ship Enterprise, his career was really born. As strange as it seems, he probably didn't know it at the time, because the series was canceled after about 90 + episodes, but enjoyed and still enjoys constant re-runs.
Millions of people have grown up watching Shatner perform some hammy acting at times in the series, but there was that something that he had that made every episode enjoyable. The show began to have a life of its own. Star Trek conventions began to appear everywhere and suddenly everything Star Trek became collectable. Kirk (William Shatner) started to appear in small plastic statue form in all different Star Trek toys. People did not seem to be able to get enough of him. Then came the Star Trek movies. Shatner seemed to have perfected his acting ability to the point where it was even more enjoyable in the films than it had been on the tv screen. The first movie was Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Actually it wasn't very good. The next film however was considered one of the best and that was Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The other films featuring the original cast were Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, StarTrek VI: The Undiscovered Country. It is basically an interview show where a guest comes on and is asked interesting questions by Shatner. It may not be the same as watching Shatner fight a lizard looking alien using only whatever is at hand, but he is getting a little long in the tooth for that. I guess we will just have to satisfy our Shatner needs without the action that used to accompany them. An old Shatner is better than no Shatner at all.
